By accessing or using CanIWalk.dog ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Informational Purpose Only

CanIWalk.dog is provided for informational and educational purposes only. The recommendations generated by this tool are based on publicly available weather data and general pet care guidelines. They do not constitute veterinary advice, professional pet care guidance, or any form of professional recommendation.

2. Not a Substitute for Veterinary Advice

This Service is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

  • Always consult your veterinarian regarding your dog's exercise needs, health conditions, and limitations
  • Dogs with medical conditions (heart disease, arthritis, respiratory issues, etc.) may have different tolerances than our general recommendations suggest
  • Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breed recommendations are general guidelines and individual dogs may vary
  • Puppy exercise limits vary significantly by breed; consult your vet for specific guidance
  • Senior dogs may have conditions not accounted for by our algorithm

3. User Responsibility

You are solely responsible for the safety and wellbeing of your pet. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Monitoring your dog for signs of discomfort, overheating, hypothermia, or fatigue during walks
  • Testing pavement temperature with your hand before walking (the "5-second rule")
  • Providing adequate water and rest during walks
  • Complying with all local leash laws and pet regulations
  • Cleaning up after your pet
  • Ensuring your dog is properly vaccinated and identified
  • Making independent judgment calls about your dog's safety regardless of our recommendations

4. Accuracy of Information

Weather data is sourced from the National Weather Service and may be:

  • Delayed by up to 30 minutes from actual conditions
  • Inaccurate for your specific micro-location (e.g., urban heat islands, shade coverage)
  • Subject to rapid changes not reflected in forecasts
  • Unavailable during service outages

Pavement temperature estimates are approximations based on air temperature. Actual pavement temperatures vary based on surface material, color, shade, and time of sun exposure. Always verify pavement temperature yourself before walking your dog.

5. Geographic Limitations

This Service currently uses the National Weather Service API, which provides data only for locations within the United States. Results for locations outside the continental US may be unavailable or inaccurate.

6. No Warranty

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL CANIWALK.DOG, ITS CREATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, AFFILIATES, OR SERVICE PROVIDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Injury or harm to any person or animal
  • Veterinary expenses or medical costs
  • Property damage
  • Loss of enjoyment or emotional distress
  • Any other damages arising from the use of or inability to use the Service

This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability (contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise), even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CanIWalk.dog, its creators, and contributors from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

9. Assumption of Risk

By using this Service, you acknowledge that walking a dog involves inherent risks including but not limited to weather-related hazards, traffic, other animals, and terrain conditions. You voluntarily assume all risks associated with using the information provided by this Service.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

11. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

12. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
